Colorado Activist Launches $1M Climate Campaign to Fill Funding Gaps and Protect Local Progress
FORT COLLINS, CO – In response to sweeping federal climate funding cuts and the recent layoffs and ongoing threats to Colorado’s vital research labs, a new statewide campaign— Green Path Colorado—has launched with a goal of raising $1 million to support grassroots climate nonprofits.
Launched by climate fundraising strategist Alexis Rhyner, founder of Green Path Guru and a graduate of the Impact MBA program at Colorado State University, the campaign aims to unite Coloradans behind a shared mission: protecting the people, programs, and progress that make the state a national leader in sustainability, science, and climate action.
“Colorado has long been at the front lines of climate research and action. We’re home to some of the world’s leading environmental scientists, bold clean energy goals, and conservation methods,” said Rhyner. “But now, that leadership is under threat. Federal funding cuts and research lab layoffs are dismantling the very systems we rely on to understand and respond to the climate crisis. In this moment of uncertainty, we need to double down on local, independent climate action. Colorado’s climate nonprofits are ready—they’re nimble, rooted in community, and already doing the work on the ground. With our support, they can fill the gaps, backstop our struggling federal agencies, and keep our momentum alive.”
The campaign officially kicks off on Earth Day, April 22, and will run throughout the year, inviting individuals, foundations, and businesses to fund the future of Colorado’s climate resilience. Donations will go directly to vetted, high-impact organizations working on the frontlines of climate right here in Colorado.
Green Path Colorado is also building a collaborative coalition of climate-focused donors and changemakers, offering training and strategic support for nonprofits navigating a shifting funding landscape.
“We’re not just raising money—we’re raising the bar for how Colorado responds to climate disruption,” Rhyner added. “This is our moment to protect what we’ve built—and push even further.”
